Copenhagen Center of functional medicine
Research-Based Health
Become ultra-healthy
Functional Medicine helps you optimise your health and create the conditions for not only a long life but a life with a high level of well-being.
At Copenhagen Center of Functional Medicine, we work with both healthy clients who want to fine-tune their lifestyle and health, as well as clients who want to understand and resolve the underlying causes of illness. We use the best diagnostic methods and tools from conventional medicine, as well as the latest innovative tests and research, in combination with a personally optimized diet, sleep, exercise, and supplements. All based on research.
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine is based on a holistic approach to the human being and focuses on understanding and treating the causes rather than just treating symptoms. With functional medicine, the aim is to create a deeper understanding of how the body’s systems work together and to identify the underlying causes of diseases or imbalances.
A treatment plan is based on a close collaboration between the client and the doctor with the purpose of uncovering the causes of diseases and/or imbalances in the individual’s health. This involves consultations where diet and lifestyle are modified, and the doctor observes how the client responds until a sustainable and healing approach is found.
Functional medicine emphasizes prevention and balance, and at CCFM, we work together with you on sleep, mental health, diet/nutritional supplements, and exercise to achieve just that. Additionally, we have the option to use health assessments from external laboratories.

Copenhagen Center of functional medicine
Functional medicine builds upon classical medicine. However, we prefer natural solutions over pills and surgery.
Our Approach to Health
Copenhagen Center of Functional Medicine (CCFM) was founded in 2018 by vascular surgeon Dr. Ulrik Hjerpsted. Dr. Hjerpsted has been practicing functional medicine since 2011 and has treated many clients who have been freed from their chronic issues such as asthma, psoriasis, joint pain, and acne. This has led to an improvement in the clients’ health, providing them with more energy and well-being.
At CCFM, we work with the latest research, techniques, and methods that have not yet been implemented in conventional healthcare, with the aim of achieving the best possible results for our clients. Additionally, we continuously strive to promote interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance our expertise. This enables us to provide a comprehensive assessment of our clients’ diet, mental health, potential illnesses, and lifestyle with the goal of alleviating their illness’ and/or imbalances and giving them renewed energy and well-being.
The Foundation of Health
Good health without medication and pills includes the following:
Diet: Diet and supplements affect the microbiome and optimize numerous bodily functions. The microbiome refers to the collective ecosystem of microorganisms, primarily bacteria, living in and on the human body. Therefore, it is crucial to eat organic, avoid pesticides and antibiotics, and eliminate individual toxic triggers to achieve and maintain good health.
Exercise: Daily movement is important to maintain the body’s natural movement patterns, strengthen bones and muscles, and positively impact hormone balance.
Sleep: Sleep and circadian rhythms are often underestimated factors for good health. Maintaining regular bedtimes and getting sufficient REM and deep sleep significantly contribute to health and, not least, well-being.
Mind: New research has shown that mental health has a significant impact on our overall well-being. The gut-brain axis affects both the mind and the gut microbiota and thus has a direct influence on our health. Activities such as yoga and meditation can also positively influence longevity and well-being.
Environment: If you are exposed to heavy metals, mold, asbestos, or other external factors, it can have a significant negative impact on your health. Additionally, the social environment and life goals play a role in your well-being.
